When the heat of summer arrives, we automatically close our windows and turn on the air conditioning. We expect to be more comfortable indoors, and most of us probably don’t think much about what’s in the cool air that’s circulating around us — as long as we can move around without breaking a sweat, all is well!
At Greiner, we’d like to suggest that California homeowners set a higher bar for home health and comfort this summer. Let’s talk about how well your AC is really working this summer, and whether your indoor air quality is as healthy as it could be.
Signs You May Need AC Repair
If your air conditioning isn’t performing up to snuff, then you’re going to be less comfortable, your air quality will suffer, and your energy bills will be higher than necessary. Have you noticed any of the following problems at your house?
Some rooms are cooler than others.
There’s insufficient air flow through your vents.
There are strange sounds coming from your AC unit.
The air coming from your vents has a musty smell.
Your energy bills are higher than they should be.
If you’re dealing with any of these issues, then it’s time to have maintenance performed on your air conditioning unit. Regular HVAC maintenance will ensure that most of these situations don’t arise in the first place; but if you don’t have a maintenance plan, you can always have an HVAC professional tune up your AC at the beginning of the summer season. Your AC will do a better job of cooling the parts of your home it was meant to cool; circulate fresh, uncontaminated air for fewer allergy symptoms at home; and run more efficiently for lower utility costs.
Signs You May Need AC Replacement
Do you have an older AC unit that may need replacement? Many of the signs that you need a new AC unit are the same as the signs for maintenance. But if you’re calling for repairs and maintenance too often and they cost too much — or if your unit simply isn’t doing the job anymore — your technician may recommend replacement. A common rule of thumb is, if the repair will cost more than 25% the cost of a new unit, it’s time to upgrade.
New air conditioning units are highly efficient. They do a better job of keeping you cool while using less energy. There are many options to choose from and many aspects to consider, such as whether you have existing ductwork, if you want to go ductless, how large an area you want to cool, and whether you want the ability to control different zones in your house. The HVAC experts at Greiner are happy to review all of your options and make recommendations according to your needs and budget.
Central Air Conditioning
Central air conditioning is an efficient and effective way to cool your entire home. Greiner’s technicians have the expertise to inspect your current central air conditioning for proper ductwork design, ensure there are no costly leaks, and clean your dirty ductwork for healthy air flow. We can also install a new central system that will deliver fresh, cool air to your whole house for years to come.
Mini-Split Heat Pumps
Mini-splits are compact, require no ductwork, and perform two functions, efficiently heating targeted areas of your home in winter and keeping it cool in summer. Mini-splits offer flexibility in placement and zoning, installation is quick, and their energy efficiency results in lower heating and cooling costs for you.
